Brand and Beyond: Why Coherence Matters More Than Being Different

Personal branding is not just about how we present ourselves, it is about making that presence feel authentic, effortless, and relevant across different contexts and audiences.

Despite differences in cultures, professions, and personal styles, personal branding remains a universal force. It is not simply a tool or a tactic, it is a way of navigating the world, shaped by coherence, authenticity, and impact.

ONE SUBJECT, THREE VISIONS: A LESSON FROM ART

Take Donatello, Michelangelo, and Bernini: three masters of sculpture, three artists who lived in different centuries and social contexts, yet all created their own interpretation of David.

They sculpted the same subject, but their versions couldn’t be more different. Each artist infused his own world, perspective, and era into the statue, shaping David through their unique lens. And yet, despite their differences, all three sculptures are renowned, respected, and critically acclaimed.

This is the essence of personal branding.

THE ROLE OF COHERENCE IN PERSONAL BRANDING

Just as three artists can depict the same figure in three radically different ways, three people can wear the same item and make it look completely different, yet still feel true to themselves.

That’s because the key to personal branding is not about standing out at all costs—it’s about coherence.

When your image, communication, and choices are aligned with who you are, you naturally exude confidence and reliability. Coherence doesn’t mean sameness—it means creating an identity that feels authentic and intentional, no matter how it is expressed.

A BLACK JACKET, INFINITE IDENTITIES

A few years ago, Chanel curated an exhibition featuring a single black jacket, but worn by different celebrities, each photographed separately in black and white.

The result?

Despite the same item, same color scheme, and same format, each portrait was completely unique. Each person brought their own essence, attitude, and presence to the image, proving that personal style is never just about the clothes, it is about the person wearing them.

BRAND & BEYOND: A COMMUNITY ROOTED IN PERSONAL BRANDING

Recently, I had the opportunity to connect with people from diverse industries, backgrounds, and perspectives. We gathered to discuss personal branding, not just as a concept, but as something that actively shapes our lives and careers.

What stood out to me was how, despite our different experiences, we each had a unique way of approaching personal branding. It became clear that while the tools and expressions may vary, the essence remains the same: how we present ourselves, how we communicate, and how we leave a lasting impression.

This conversation took place during the first event of Brand & Beyond, the community I created to explore personal branding beyond aesthetics—as a tool for self-expression, influence, and meaningful connections.

Personal branding is about mastering the tools that allow us to both express and impress. It is about crafting an identity that is genuine, adaptable, and unmistakably ours; no matter where we are, what we do, or how we choose to show up.

And that is exactly what Brand & Beyond is all about: a space where people can come together to share insights, learn from each other, and refine their personal brands in an authentic and impactful way.
